San Antonio, Texas La Mansion del Rio Hotel

A 5 star elegant hotel overlooking the Riverwalk with a blend of Spanish Colonial architecture and European Style furnishings. It is within walking distance to “The Alamo” and shopping. The cuisine is wonderful. My favorite time to visit is during the Christmas holidays when the hotel is decorated with Spanish style ornaments.  Along the Riverwalk, the Weeping Willow Trees are decorated with thousands of Christmas lights.

back

Sedona, Arizona Enchantment Resort & Miiamo Spa

A 5 star property that sets inside the heart of Arizona’s “Red Rock Country” and bordered by the Coconino National Forest with stunning views of the Boynton Canyon. The guestrooms are spacious and the Jr. suites have fireplaces with patios. You can relax, meditate, pamper yourself and enjoy the Miiamo spa offering a variety of spa treatments and services. A place to release my “stress”.

back

New Orleans, Louisiana Windsor Court Hotel

This exclusive and luxurious hotel displays an $8-million collection of art work and is located one block from the French Quarter. The casino is across the street and you are within walking distance to the shopping mall and Riverfront. The rooms have English-style furnishings and décor with premium Italian bed linens. The ambience of this property speaks for itself. Ask for my favorite room, a deluxe corner suite with a balcony. The view of the city and the Mississippi River is incredible. Lisa Farrell, Sales Manager, with her pleasant personality will make sure your stay is comfortable at this beautiful and prestigious property.

Caribbean

La Romana, Dominican Republic Casa de Campo Resort

A complete luxury destination resort that offers something for everyone including two Pete Dye-designed golf courses ranked #1 in the Golf Magazine. The beautifully decorated guestrooms are spacious. Outstanding dining in a choice of several restaurants and live entertainment. The food is fresh and scrumptious. Indulge in all the activities including tennis, water sports, private beach, horseback riding, donkey polo, skeet shooting, fitness center, fishing, boating and excursions. This property also offers private villas from two to five bedrooms, some with pools. As one of my favorite resorts I get the chance to be the client and enjoy catching up on my rest, reading or just relaxing at the pool with a cold beverage. My clients are always treated like royalty by Krisis Mendez, Groups & Conventions Coordinator, who reminds me, “this is your home away from home.”

St. Maarten, French West Indies La Samanna Resort

This tropical paradise with pristine white beaches offers the ultimate blend of Caribbean relaxation and French sophistication. Rooms and suites overlook the ocean. The rooms are beautifully appointed with exquisite furnishings. This property has a full service European Spa that offers an array of spa treatments from head to toe. The private villas have one to four guestrooms within steps to the ocean and are ideal for honeymooners. My favorite room was a suite overlooking the ocean and a veranda leading out from the living room. You are a welcomed with a bottle of champagne and fresh fruit.

Another activity in St. Maarten, Dutch Antilles is to experience Regatta 12 Metre yacht racing on Dennis Conner’s America’s Cup winning Stars and Stripes, Canada II and True North for a once in a lifetime adventure. You can also visit the casinos on the Dutch side.

Anguilla, British West Indies  I have two favorite resorts, both are very elegant properties, but they are also very different.

CuisinArt Resort and Spa

This property is not only impressive from the time you enter into the lobby but the beautiful landscape and elegant surroundings say it all. The spacious and beautiful guestrooms are with a private solarium and marble bathtubs to accommodate one or two people with a living room leading onto the balcony overlooking the ocean. The bed faces the ocean and allows you to listen to the sounds of the incoming waves as a lullaby that puts you to sleep. There are two penthouses that are exquisite and tastefully decorated with fine art and all of the amenities for gracious living, including a large wrap around terrace. The Venus Spa offers a wide range of facials, massages and other spa treatments. The Hydroponic Farm on the property produces luscious vegetables, edible flowers and herbs for excellent cuisine. Rabin Ortiz, General Manager, and his staff are personable and rank among the highest team of professionals for their excellence in making this property an exceptional place to stay in Anguilla.

CoveCastles Villas and Beach Resort

This resort is different from all of my Caribbean experiences.  A place of solitude and relaxation that you will long remember and want to return. The 12 magnificent private villas consisting of two, three and four bedrooms are spacious with a living room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen and a verandah on the beach level. The cool air from the Trade Winds off the ocean is nature's air-conditioner. This property has been featured in Architectural Digest and was designed by Myron Goldfinger a famous architect. If you wish to avoid crowds and at the same time enjoy the ambience and luxury of a unique resort CoveCastles is the place and is also ideal for honeymooners. A warm and friendly staff will greet you and Sylvene Petty, General Manager, will make sure your stay is unforgettable. For your dining pleasure you will define the true meaning of “My compliments to the chef." The cuisine is superb.

Barcelona, Spain Hotel Arts Barcelona / Ritz Carlton

This beautiful hotel overlooks the Mediterranean in the area of the marina and it is within walking distance to beaches and the casino. Several wonderful restaurants for your dining pleasure surround Hotel Arts. This elegant and modern hotel was built during the Olympics and features large windows with breathtaking views of Barcelona with state of the art audio/visual equipment. I have stayed at this property three times and each time has been a unique and memorable experience. The decorated guestrooms are luxuriously finished. The “L” Shaped corner suite was large enough to entertain 30 of my guests. This has been my favorite property in the Ritz Carlton chain for several years and one that I highly recommend to my clients.

back

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Copacabana Palace

This 80 years old property is considered by critics to be South America’s grandest hotel.  It is known for its personal touch and impeccable style, and is the host of kings and presidents from all over the world. The hotel faces the famous Copacabana beach. All guestrooms are large with elegant décor. I particularly like the Jr. Suite with the separate entrance into the living room and the bedroom. The Sunday buffet is a must and offers a variety of delectable cuisine. This location gives you an opportunity to stroll along the avenue and dine at sidewalk cafes.

back

Johannesburg, South Africa   Michaelangelo Hotel on Sandton Square

The elegant Michael Angelo captures the spirit of a bygone era while being at the heart of the pulsating vibrant corporate capital of Africa, Sandton Square. The guestrooms have beautiful Renaissance décor that is very tasteful and comfortable.  My room was in a good location that gave me a panoramic view of the city. This hotel is adjacent to a large shopping mall accessible from inside the hotel. My most memorable experience about visiting Johannesburg was that my private driver gave me a city tour and was able to get me into the front yard of Mr. Nelson Mandela, the former President, where I had the opportunity to meet him one on one.

Adventure Travel

Kenya, East Africa  Mount Kenya Safari Club

My most adventurous experience was in Kenya on a safari.  I had the opportunity to see from the most humble to the most furious animals up close and personal in an opened top jeep.  I also found the courage to go up in a hot air balloon soaring over the animals and landing on the ground in their habitat for a champagne breakfast.  The visit to Maasai Mara Village is a must to see and witness the tribes living in their manayata, or village in huts made from mud as they have for many generations. They adorn themselves with brilliant colors of the elaborate beads and cloths.  I also slept in tent at the exotic Sweetwaters Tented camp that had all of the modern conveniences.  My safari ended at Mount Kenya Safari Club where I stayed in a spacious and luxurious suite with a wood burning fireplace.  Of course by this time I needed a soothing massage and facial after my adventures in the wild.  A safari is a once in a lifetime adventure that will be remembered as an experience that exceeds your greatest expectations.  Highly recommended.

Sailing on one of the three Crystal ships is the ultimate experience of a lifetime. The service and cuisine are impeccable and these beautiful vessels continue to receive the coveted “World’s Best” for a record of 8 consecutive years. The staterooms are spacious and beautifully decorated in soft pastel and earth tone colors with full bath tub/shower combinations. The itineraries will take you to some of the most exotic places in the world including the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada and offers “theme” cruises of interest for your enjoyment. The activities on board during the day will keep you busy and the nightly entertainment features some of the best talent on the seas. If there was a rating higher than their current 6 star luxury status, I would rate Crystal Cruises a 7. It is always delightful working with Paul Girouard, District Sales Manager, Mid-Atlantic. Bon Voyage!
